Great Article Below Become a Caterer – Ten Steps to Start up a Catering Business by Robert Sutherland Catering offers an excellent opportunity to entrepreneurs who have a love of cuisine and entertaining to get started with their own small business. In the following article we outline ten areas for consideration before you jump into the business and start advertising your services as a caterer. 1) Preparation – Firstly you should brush up on your food preparation and you could enrol in a course on this subject and in small business management as well. Next, you have to research the market by looking at what your future competitors are doing locally and assessing market niches and demand. You should try to interview as many people as possible to find out how you can cater to underserved market segments or how you could improve on the service that other businesses currently offer. 2) Experience – If you don’t have a relevant qualification or have not had relevant experience in the food, beverage and hospitality industries then you should aim to get at least several months worth of experience. 3) Complying with Local Health Authorities – make sure that you have an in depth understanding of all the local health and safety requirements that you must comply with as a catering business owner. 4) A Place for Food Preparation – Having access to a suitable kitchen space is …

A tale of two cities:
In a couple of my jobs when I was younger, I worked at Wal-Mart and I worked at a small restaurant. At Wal-Mart, the main manager never even worked. He’d come in for an hour in his street clothes, and leave. His other assistant managers would sit in the back doing nothing.
At my small restaurant job, I was a sort of manager. Some of my other co-managers would sit in the back and be lazy. I always worked. The main manager was an 8-4 kind of guy and all he did was sit in the office. He couldn’t even do anything in the place. He hired idiots. He stole from the place. He didn’t like to be bothered after a certain time, and never even came in to see the place at night.
Now, at more than a few Chinese restaurants I have been to, the owner is there ALL DAY. They’re at the front counter, greeting guests, completing take-out orders, managing people. ALL DAY. EVERY DAY. There’s this Indian store in town, and the same guy is working as the cashier. They can afford to hire someone to be stand-in manager or something too. Nope, they’re there all day. There’s a convenience store up the road, the Chaldean/Arab guy is there at the register ALL DAY. No vacations. These people are never sitting in an office.
Yet, when I talk to American people about what it takes to be a manager, they will tell me, “Don’t do anything. That’s what the best managers do. Sit in the back and give orders.” Yeah, do that and steal.
Anyone wonder why this country is going down the drain now?
The ironic thing is, I work in schools now, and most of the principals and teachers are always working hard, doing their job. I thought government workers were lazy people who were noncompetitive? I’ve seen so many lazy people in corporate jobs, it wasn’t funny. Their attitudes suck too. Many people are burned out because the guys at the top don’t do anything, don’t encourage any innovation and steal. The worst thing is, the unions just give the ordinary worker a say in the corruption and laziness!
I wish most of these wannabe businessmen Republicans on here knew why America is really going down.
